Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty

A nose job remains a popular cosmetic surgery for both men and women. Important to the side profile, nose reshaping can change the side profile and overall facial appearance. For patients unhappy with their nose, this can make a major improvement in their self-esteem. A rhinoplasty can also improve breathing in some cases. Some patients only have minor concerns with their noses or want to try out the look of rhinoplasty before surgery, a non-surgical nose job can fulfill these needs. Northwest Face & Body offers the best non-surgical rhinoplasty Bellevue and Kirkland provides.

Overview: What Is A Non-Surgical Nose Job?

A non-surgical rhinoplasty uses dermal fillers to enhance and alter the appearance of the nose. The procedure consists of altering the nose with injections and typically takes around a half hour or less. Non-surgical nose jobs are a relatively new use of filler and offer a new nose enhancement option for patients not wanting surgery.

The non-surgical nose job can correct a variety of cosmetic concerns. The most common one that the procedure addresses is a bump on the bridge of the nose. With filler strategically placed, it can disguise the look of the bump and provide a straighter nose in profile. The procedure can also make adjustments to the tip of the nose.

Unlike a surgical nose job, the nose filler cannot make the nose smaller. Only a traditional rhinoplasty can do this. Although, for good candidates, the results of a non-surgical rhinoplasty can rival those of a surgical one.

Benefits

A non-surgical rhinoplasty carries many benefits. Not only can it correct aspects of the nose that may cause distress, but it also offers many advantages in the way it is performed. A few of the benefits of a non-surgical nose job include:

  • Address unwanted humps and bumps on the nose
  • Increase or alter the projection of the nose tip
  • Improve facial profile
  • Address unwanted indentations
  • Align and improve facial symmetry
  • Non-surgical, non-invasive
  • No significant downtime required
  • Incisions not required
  • Scarring unlikely
  • Results reversible to provide peace of mind
  • Procedure takes under an hour
  • Long lasting results
  • Minimal side effects
  • Does not require general anesthesia
  • Custom tailored procedure
  • Provides a “trial run” for those considering surgery or more permanent options

Non-Surgical vs. Surgical Rhinoplasty

When considering nose enhancement options, most patients will gravitate towards the non-surgical nose filler option. For many patients, this can offer a long lasting solution or allow them to try out the possible results of rhinoplasty surgery. However, not every concern with the nose is adequately treated with a non-surgical nose job.

If a patient has a deviated septum or breathing issues due to their nasal anatomy, a surgical rhinoplasty may be necessary to provide the best results and improvement. A surgical nose job comes with general anesthesia, a recovery, and downtime. The results of a rhinoplasty often become permanent versus a non-surgical nose job which will eventually need refreshing to maintain results.

The best way to determine if a non-surgical or surgical rhinoplasty is best for you is to meet with a Bellevue plastic surgeon at Northwest Face & Body. Your plastic surgeon can best determine if whether which technique will provide you the ideal result while also aligning with your goals and preferences.

Before And After Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty

Consultation

When you meet with a plastic surgeon at Northwest Face & Body, they will lead a discussion and examine you to determine if you are a good candidate for non-surgical rhinoplasty. First, your surgeon will ask about your concerns and reasons for seeking the procedure. They will want to know about your goal results and procedure preferences.

Next, your Bellevue plastic surgeon will review your medical history and lifestyle. They may ask about certain medical conditions, previous surgeries and procedures, and if you smoke. At this point, they will examine the area to determine if nose filler is the best procedure to address your concerns. If your surgeon believes you may benefit from a non-surgical rhinoplasty, he will determine you are a good candidate.  While most people are good candidates for this type of non-invasive nose job, there may be some circumstances where your plastic surgeon may advise another procedure. Such as, if you have breathing problems you may need a surgical rhinoplasty.

Injections

Once your plastic surgeon concludes that you are a good candidate for a non-surgical rhinoplasty, you can schedule the procedure. Oftentimes, the consultation and injections can happen during the same appointment.

To begin, the Northwest Face & Body team will prepare the filler. A non-surgical rhinoplasty typically uses between one to two syringes of filler, however, this will vary widely among patients. Your surgeon will also disinfect the area to prevent infection and cleanse the skin at the injection site.

If you want, a topical anesthetic can be applied prior to treatment to keep you comfortable during treatment. Your plastic surgeon will then carry out the injections. The injection sites and techniques will vary depending on your specific anatomy and goals. In general, the injections usually occur on the bridge of the nose, in the tip, or both.

A non-surgical rhinoplasty usually takes anywhere from ten to fifteen minutes once injections commence. After injecting the filler, your plastic surgeon may gently massage the filler into place. You should see results nearly immediately and your surgeon will provide a mirror for you.

Recovery

After the initial procedure, you may experience some minor swelling and bruising in the next few days. These are normal and usually subside within a week or two. Patients can return to work and most activities immediately following the injections. However, if you are experiencing swelling or bruising, you may want to refrain from anything strenuous for a few days.

Your Bellevue plastic surgeon may advise you not to wear glasses or sunglasses for a few days to a week. You will also need to use caution that you do not disturb the area. Therefore, avoiding activities where that may be more likely is advised.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Type Of Filler Is Used In The Nose?

There a variety of fillers used for a non-surgical nose job including reversible, hyaluronic acid fillers. Non-reversible fillers are occasionally utilized, but less frequently. The two hyaluronic acid filler types offered at Northwest Face & Body include Juvederm and Restylane fillers which each offer various options for a non-surgical rhinoplasty.

Is Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Permanent?

No, although filler does tend to last longer in the nose than in other areas such as in the lips. On average, a non-surgical rhinoplasty lasts between a year and a year and half. Though, this differs between patients. Certain fillers may also last longer than others.

The only permanent option is to consider nose job surgery. Understandably, this requires commitment that not every patient is ready to make. A Kirkland non-surgical rhinoplasty can offer a preview of the possible results. Your surgeon can offer more insight into how long your results may last based on your medical history and various factors.

Will It Make My Nose Look Bigger?

No, not if you are an ideal candidate. If one of your goals for nose enhancement is to achieve a smaller looking nose, a non-surgical rhinoplasty will not achieve this. The procedure is best suited for correcting humps in the bridge and adding volume to the nose. Also, with artistic technique, your nose will not look like it changed in size unless it is one of your goals.

Can I Get A Surgical Nose Job Later?

Of course! The filler will eventually dissolve. This requires either another liquid nose job or undergoing nose job surgery. You can discuss rhinoplasty with your Kirkland plastic surgeon at any time after your nose filler procedure.

Will It Fix A Deviated Septum?

No. While it is sometimes possible to improve the position of the septum with filler, this is not the best long term solution. A deviated septum requires a procedure known as a septoplasty to correct. Septoplasty surgery is often performed during a nose job and is usually the best solution for a deviated septum.

Our plastic surgeons perform several combined rhinoplasty and septoplasty procedures every year. They can determine if you have a deviated septum and recommend the best treatment.
