The muscles around the eyes and forehead are attached to the underside of the skin. Every time you frown or squint, these muscles contract and pull your skin into a wrinkle. Over time, these wrinkles become deeper, and are eventually permanently etched into your skin. Botox® is a serum that temporarily relaxes the muscles into which it is injected. Botox® is an excellent way to prevent frown and squint lines from becoming deeper wrinkles for patients who do not already have lines etched into the skin. In many patients of less than 60 years, most squint and frown lines are able to be lessened with Botox®. For patients with already deeply engraved lines, Botox® can help improve or prevent worsening of the lines, although wrinkle reduction may require additional filling (Sculptra, Fat Transfer, Juvederm Voluma) or a CO2 laser resurfacing.

  • Non-Surgical
  • Quick procedure
  • Little to no recovery time

At our Kirkland location, our aesthetic staff, supervised by Dr. Allegra or Dr. Ummat, will inject tiny amounts of Botox® into the specific small facial muscles that need to be relaxed. The procedure takes just a few minutes. You feel only minor and brief discomfort during these injections and there is no recovery time. Botox® takes three to seven days to take effect. Just ask the front desk for a consultation form and you can be treated now.

If you wear bangs to cover your forehead lines; if you now consider your smile lines crow’s feet; if people ask “what’s the matter – you’re frowning” (and you’re not aware of it), then you are a good candidate for Botox®. Areas between the eyebrows, the forehead, and crow’s feet can be successfully treated, causing improvement or disappearance of lines. Lines that are not caused by the muscles pulling on the skin do not respond to Botox® injections. These wrinkles are the result of sun-damaged skin, and can be improved with fillers, Laser Resurfacing, or Fat Transfer.

Botox® is not permanent but lasts three to six months. When it starts to wear off, you will notice a return of your wrinkles. Frequently the returning wrinkles are not as deep. After repeated injections, the effect may last longer.

We do not use Botox® for these areas. While relaxing the muscles will eliminate the wrinkles, it would also change your smile and facial expressions. Belotero, or Restylane can improve these wrinkles.

There have been no serious side effects associated with this material at the dosages we employ. Botox® has been used in a safe and effective manner at a much higher dosage for patients with neuromuscular disorders for approximately 15 years, even in children. The only side effects we have ever seen have been transient minor bruising or a lowering of the eyebrows where an injection was requested directly above the eyebrow.

In some people, Botox® will reduce (or even stop) sweat production in the armpits for up to one year.

DYSPORT™ is an acetylcholine release inhibitor and a neuromuscular blocking agent indicated for the treatment of facial wrinkles that occur from active muscles of facial expression.

DYSPORT™ is similar to Botox® but is manufactured by a competitor. The dilutions are different from the Botox dilutions, so it is imperative that you are treated by a trained physician or a provider that is supervised closely by a physician.

Currently, we find that DYSPORT’s effect occurs faster than Botox’s. DYSPORT™ is also about 20% less expensive than Botox in terms of total amounts needed to achieve a given result – we pass those saving directly on to you. Long-term effects have not been studied in the US, but DYSPORT™ has been used in Europe for over 15 years by now. We are pleased with DYSPORT’s performance when compared to Botox.

Like Botox and Dysport, Xeomin uses a purified botulinum type A toxin to improve the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. However, Xeomin does not contain some of the other purified proteins that are used in other injectables.

Your Xeomin treatment can help treat various signs of aging by relaxing the facial muscles that cause the skin to be pulled and folded when you squint, smile, or frown. By doing so, Xeomin is able to effectively prevent new lines or wrinkles from forming while improving the appearance of any existing marks around the corners of the mouth, eyes, or brow.

There is little to no downtime associated with non-surgical Xeomin treatments. A board-certified physician like Kirkland’s Dr. Ludwig Allegra can complete your treatment in just a half hour so that you can resume your daily schedule immediately after. You will see progressive results as the botulinum toxin takes effect. Patients often return after about 3-4 months to have touch-up treatments. Xeomin can also be combined with other injectable toxins and dermal fillers to achieve a fuller rejuvenation of your face.

Cosmetic facial fillers encompass the extensive field of “wrinkle reduction” and “wrinkle prevention”.

There are a wide variety of dermal fillers that are on the market and it is not always obvious which one you should choose. There are however, some general guidelines that a qualified practitioner can use. Dr. Ludwig Allegra has put together a quick reference guide below to give you an idea of what to look for.

Patients should review the following considerations:

  • Where the filler can be used. Not all fillers can be used everywhere.
  • How the filler feels.
  • If the filler is permanent or if it can be reversed. Some dermal fillers can be dissolved by enzymes we inject after the initial filler is administered.
  • Places filler is administered can include:
    • Under eyes
    • Cheeks
    • Nasolabial folds
    • Chin
    • Jawline
    • Temples

Injectable Gel to Smooth Out Wrinkles and Create Fuller Lips

Adding volume and fullness at Northwest Face & Body has never been easier, quicker or faster. Our aesthetic professionals offer both FDA approved Restylane and Perlane as wrinkle fillers. These products have long been available in Europe and both have excellent safety profiles. Studies show they last longer than collagen injections with no reported allergic reactions due to the natural compound ingredient, hyaluronic acid (HA), which our bodies naturally produce.

Restylane is an injected gel that gives fast correction for fine lines to deeper wrinkles and with little downtime. Used for upper facial wrinkles, these fillers are minimally invasive methods that have lasting results up to six months. They are both safe and natural fillers, working to restore your skin’s volume, enhance your lips, and eliminate wrinkles around the mouth and nose.

At its base, the HA compound in Restylane and Perlane is a natural hydrator, cell protector, and cushioning agent that works with your DNA. As a result, both fillers act as natural inhibitors making these two injectable gels some of the most widely used derma fillers on the market.

The Anti-Aging Difference with Perlane®

While both Restylane and Perlane are non-invasive skin therapies that enhance the essence of your beauty, there is one difference between the two. Just like Restylane, Perlane adds volume, fullness, and smoother contours – but Perlane offers one more advantage. The gel particles are larger, which makes Perlane a good choice for deeper and more troublesome wrinkles.

Northwest Body & Face offers Sculptra® Aesthetic in our Kirkland facility serving the east side and Seattle areas.

What is Sculptra Aesthetic

Sculptra Aesthetic works to replace lost collagen in a series of treatments administered by Dr. Allegra.

Sculptra Aesthetic injectable poly-L-lactic acid is a biodegradable polymer used for the correction of age-related facial imperfections. Sculptra is incredibly effective for restoring tissue volume that has been lost over time. Sculptra Aesthetic is a long-lasting filler used to improve conditions like the following:

  • Nasolabial folds
  • Facial depressions or contour deficiencies
  • Middle and lower facial volume loss
  • Laxity of the jaw line

The aging process brings a progressive loss of skin volume, caused by a range of different factors. The dermis can become thinner, flatter, and lose its structural integrity. Fat loss and fat redistribution occur and radically change a person’s appearance, causing hollowness, wrinkles, folds, and other contour deficiencies.

Sculptra Aesthetic was developed to treat the signs of facial fat loss. After you receive an injection of Sculptra Aesthetic, your tissues respond to the compound and eventually break it down, but meanwhile, a collagen stimulating response occurs, allowing the results to last a considerable length of time. It’s not unusual for patients to see results lasting beyond 18 months. Sculptra is also biocompatible, so you don’t need an allergy test before treatment.

What is Radiesse?

Radiesse is a cosmetic filler that is injected into facial lines and wrinkles. Being a “next generation” filler, Radiesse lasts longer than other fillers, and it does more than just plump-up facial lines and wrinkles. Radiesse’s claim is the “advanced calcium-based microsphere technology” which both restores volume and also promotes the growth of your own body’s collagen.

How does Radiesse work?

Using a very fine needle, small amounts of Radiesse are injected under your lines and wrinkles. This achieves two things: a) the missing volume under the skin is replaced, and b) tiny particles in the substance form a scaffold to produce new collagen. This two-fold response provides visible improvement of folds and wrinkles right away, and the body’s own collagen will soon be able to fill in the wrinkles even more.

What is Radiesse used for?

Radiesse is often used for nasolabial folds, the lines that radiate from the side of the nose to the side of the mouth. In the hands of a capable physician, this will result in remarkable results.

What sets Radiesse apart from other fillers

The biggest difference is the two-fold approach that Radiesse offers: immediate results coupled with stimulation of the body’s own collagen growth.

Who is a candidate for Radiesse treatment?

If you have facial wrinkles due to aging and volume loss are candidates for Radiesse. You will want to consult with a physician who has experience with Radiesse and other fillers to determine if this would be the best use. Generally speaking, Radiesse is a good choice if you are familiar with other filler products and prefer the convenience of fewer injections.

How long will Radiesse last?

Radiesse has been shown to last for about one year (and sometimes longer). The new collagen growth stimulated by it helps maintain the correction for the long term. Still, individual results may vary.

Is Radiesse permanent?

No. The microspheres that provide the scaffolding for your own collagen will eventually break down and be absorbed by your body. This means that Radiesse is somewhere between the quickly absorbed fillers and the long-term implants that are also available.

Is Radiesse safe?

Per the manufacturer, Radiesse has been shown to be safe and effective. Radiesse has been tested rigorously and use is by physicians in more than 200,000 patients worldwide. Its biocompatible composition means there is virtually no risk of any allergic reaction or concern that your body will reject Radiesse. If you experience any “normal” discomfort, swelling, or redness, it typically resolves within a day or two.*

How many treatments are required?

Depending on your treatment preferences, you can achieve full results with one treatment or “ease” into the final result with a touch-up.* We are, however, very good at this.

Does the treatment hurt?

We can help with topical anesthetics if you worry – most of our patients do not, but we prefer to individualize our approach.

Is there a risk that Radiesse will migrate throughout the body?

Again, per the manufacturer (and in line with our own experience), Radiesse does not migrate and is biocompatible. The scaffolding provided by it serves to anchor it.

Fine lines and wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process. If you’re looking to soften these signs of aging without surgery, you should consider Belotero. Belotero is a hyaluronic acid-based facial filler that can instantly hydrate and plump volume-deficient regions on your face and neck.

Who can benefit from Belotero?

Belotero is an FDA cleared treatment indicated for moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds.

Good candidates for Belotero have:

  • Wrinkles around the eyes known as crow’s feet
  • Smile and laugh lines
  • Horizontal neck creases
  • Under eye wrinkles and depressions

Hyaluronic Acid, the active ingredient in Belotero, is a naturally occurring substance found in the human body. Unlike fillers of the past, it is free of animal proteins, making it an incredibly safe, biocompatible product for all skin types. The best candidates for treatment are healthy and motivated to improve their appearance.

You can find out if you are a good candidate for Belotero treatments during a consultation. Please come prepared to discuss important details such as your medical history and cosmetic goals.

What to expect during your Belotero treatment?

Belotero is a quick outpatient procedure (meaning you’ll be able to return home the same day as your treatment) that can be completed in a few minutes. Your face will be cleansed with an antiseptic prior to treatment, and if needed, we can also apply a numbing cream for additional comfort.

Using a very fine needle, we inject small amounts of Belotero into targeted areas. After an injection, we gently massage the treatment areas to promote a smooth result. An icepack may also be placed across the treatment sites to reduce swelling.

After Your Belotero Treatment

Belotero is a minimally invasive treatment and no downtime is necessary. You should be able to resume your normal routine right away. The treatment sites will be somewhat sensitive, so you should avoid direct sun exposure for the first day or two and follow all post-treatment instructions. Some slight swelling or redness may also be present but should resolve in a few days.

Visible improvements can be seen right away and will be visible for up to one year. Belotero provides a smooth result, so you can anticipate a very natural-looking appearance. Most patients choose to have follow-up treatments every 6 to 12 months to maintain their new look.

Possible side effects associated with Belotero are typically mild and temporary. You may experience some redness, swelling, itching, and tenderness. The risk of lumps forming after treatment is minimal and no cases have been reported yet. During your visit to Northwest Face and Body, we will discuss all of the pertinent risks and safety information about Belotero.

Juvederm® is a dermal filler designed to restore volume to your skin. At Northwest Body & Face, we use it to correct nasolabial folds and other age-related concerns such as moderate to severe wrinkles.

Juvederm is made with hyaluronic acid, a natural component of your body’s connective tissue. By restoring hyaluronic acid to your tissue, those unwanted smile lines and parentheses will disappear.*

Juvederm is FDA approved for treating facial wrinkles and folds. Therefore, we may recommend it for the treatment of:

  • Thin or wrinkled lips
  • Marionette lines
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Prejowl area

Men and women of all skin types can safely undergo treatment with Juvederm.

Before your Juvederm treatment, you will meet with Dr. Allegra to discuss your goals. An allergy test won’t be needed prior to treatment, because the gel is made with biocompatible ingredients.

During treatment, Dr. Allegra injects the Juvederm into specific areas of the face in a short outpatient procedure. The injections may take up to 30 minutes, depending on how many areas you want to be treated.

Juvederm XC is formulated with lidocaine, which is a numbing agent. This makes the injections more comfortable, and usually eliminates the need for a topical numbing cream. After your injections, Dr. Allegra will briefly massage your face to make sure that the gel is evenly distributed.

When will I see results and how long do they last?

You will see the results of your treatment quickly. Juvederm treatments are long-lasting, but not permanent. Eventually, your body will absorb the hyaluronic acid in the gel. You should see the results of Juvederm for up to one year following your treatment.

What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is an FDA-approved hyaluronic acid-based filler that, when injected, reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face, like nasolabial folds.

What is the difference between Juvederm Ultra XC and Juvederm Ultra Plus XC?

Juvederm is an FDA-approved hyaluronic acid-based filler that, when injected, reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face, like nasolabial folds.

How long do the effects of the Juvederm treatment last?

The diminished wrinkles you experience following your Juvederm treatment can last up to one year. As your body absorbs the Juvederm solution, you may wish to schedule touch-up treatments to maintain the effect.

Are there side effects of Juvederm?

The Juvederm injections may cause bruising, or mild swelling in the treated area. This can cause your lips or face to look a bit fuller than expected immediately following treatment. This swelling improves rapidly, and you will see the true results of your treatment once that occurs. You can ice the treated area during the 24 hours after your treatment to reduce swelling.

After your treatment, you should avoid alcohol, exercise, and prolonged exposure to sunlight for 24 hours. After this, you’re free to return to your normal routine and enjoy the results of your treatment.

Bellafill is the only filler with long-lasting microspheres that allow long-lasting correction. The microspheres are made of acrylic (polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) that is inert in the body. This filler has been on the market for many years and was originally called Artifill. It was rebranded recently with more FDA approvals for facial wrinkles and dented acne scarring.

This filler is composed of Bovine (cow) collagen with suspended microscopic PMMA beads. The collagen allows the microspheres to be delivered homogeneously into the dermis. The bovine collagen then breaks down and dissipates, leaving the microspheres behind. The patient’s own collagen then grows around each of the beads, keeping them in place and filling the space.

There is fast acting correction of the wrinkles that then dissipates as the cow collagen degrades but then refills as the patient’s own collagen wraps around the spheres and fills the space. It takes about 3-4 months for the patient’s own collagen to grow around the spheres.* This product requires a skin test, at least 30 days prior to cosmetic injection.

How long will the result last?

This product is very long lasting. However, aging may require more product in the future. Studies show at least 5 years of correction.

Why is a skin test required?

The microspheres are non-allergenic, it is the bovine (cow) collagen that some patients may be allergic to. The skin test is done like a TB test with a little of the bovine collagen placed just under the skin of the forearm (no microspheres are used in the skin test).

Can it be removed after placement?

No, so make sure you go to an expert, like us.

How many treatments will it take?

Depends on how deep the wrinkle is. Shallow wrinkles require much less and may only need one treatment, while deeper wrinkles may take much more and need several treatments 4 months apart to bring them up to where they look best. Once the contour has been achieved it will last a long time.

What are the side effects of Bellafill?

Bruising, swelling for a few days, possible to have a bump.

Where do you place Bellafill?

Facial wrinkles and dented acne scars.

Can you use Bellafill along with other fillers?

Yes. Often this is done by adding a little of this long lasting filler at the same time as other fillers.

*Individual results may vary
