How Does Mole Removal Work?

With Dr. Young, mole and lesion removal works through a few different methods that create a clear and beautiful complexion. Because there are a few options for removing moles and skin lesions, Dr. Young can provide a personalized approach depending on your unique needs. He offers multiple solutions for eliminating moles and lesions, depending on the severity of the blemish and the depth the removal will require.

Why Get A Mole Removal?

Listen, everyone has a different aesthetic they want to achieve, and sometimes, moles don’t fit that specific look. Whether a mole removal procedure is something you want is a personal decision. We aren’t here to tell you that you need one, only to keep you informed so you can decide. However, while moles are harmless initially, they can sometimes be the starting point for certain skin cancers, like melanoma, to grow. It’s a good idea to get a mole or skin lesion removed before it starts to show signs of cancer cells. So, if you find yourself wanting to get rid of a mole or lesion, Dr. Young can do it without leaving behind evidence it was ever there. Benefits of mole removal include:
  • Removes large & deep moles
  • Removes deep skin lesions
  • Leaves behind little to no scarring
  • Leaves behind smooth, clear skin
  • Eliminates blemishes that can get caught on clothing or when shaving
  • Prevents moles from turning cancerous later on
  • Preformed by the leading mole and skin lesion removal surgeon in Bellevue

Dr. Philip Young is one of the leading mole and skin lesion removal surgeons in the country, and we aren’t just saying that. He has over a decade of experience with treating head and neck cancer and oral maxillofacial trauma in a level 1 trauma center at Los Angeles County General Hospital.

Now, he has poured his passion for preventing cancer into an incredible process that can eliminate moles and skin lesions with minimal scarring or trauma. There is truly no better surgeon to trust with this process.

Methods For Mole Removal

There are two primary options for mole and skin lesion removal. Which one is used depends on the type of mole or lesion you have, its size, and the depth of the blemish. The types of mole removal Dr. Young may use include:

  • Excision: Excision mole and skin lesion removal are used for larger moles requiring more in-depth procedures. Excision is the best way to remove the mole entirely, leaving no trace of it behind. Excision also prevents any regrowth from occurring but does require sutures for the excision to heal. However, Dr. Young uses a special suture method known as the fusiform pattern to hide the scarring better.
  • Co2 Laser Removal: Co2 laser removal is used on both smaller moles and skin lesions, depending on the severity of the blemish. Co2 laser removal depends on the size and height of the mole or lesion, as larger or taller ones may require excision. But if your mole or lesion is smaller, Co2 laser removal is great for a less invasive process. It eliminates the mole or lesion in the exact area and does not require sutures, but it can allow for some regrowth to occur.

How It Works

Each method works a little differently in order to achieve the best results for your specific moles. Let’s look at each method and what the procedure entails:

  • Excision Mole Removal: The excision method requires a crescent-shaped incision that removes some of the outside skin around the mole. The incision is typically twice the length of the mole, in order to create results that leave minimal scarring, and avoid bumps or puckering around the edges of the incision site.
  • Co2 Laser Removal: Co2 laser removal is used for smaller moles and can pinpoint the specific area of the lesion or mole. It limits the amount of tissue that’s affected and can lead to less scarring and impressive results.

Things To Consider

Dr. Young will have a consultation with you before your mole removal procedure, to determine the best route for your specific goals. Mainly, he’ll look at the size, shape, and height of your mole or skin lesion to determine if excision or Co2 laser removal is the best option. Typically, if the mole is smaller than 4mm, Co2 laser removal is best, as the excision process is harder to control around that small of an area. Dr. Young will help you find the perfect solution during your initial consultation!

Before & After A Mole Removal

During your initial consultation, Dr. Young will have specific instructions that promote better healing and less scarring after the removal. These instructions should start at least two weeks before your procedure and include:
  • Avoid any medication or substance that thins the blood (Aspirin, alcohol, etc.)
  • Do not take any fish oil or herbal supplements
  • Do not take vitamin E
These preparation steps will help reduce bruising and swelling after surgery. It also encourages the excision site to heal correctly.

Recovery

The recovery process depends on what mole removal procedure you’ve undergone. With Co2 laser removal, it may require a longer recovery period due to the open and raw area. While excision will only take a week to heal, Co2 lasering may take two weeks or longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

A mole removal procedure is numbed, so you won’t feel any discomfort during the process. Your skin may be slightly tender and raw after the treatment, but that should fade over time. During a consultation, you can talk with Dr. Young about pain management.

How Much Does Mole Removal Cost In Bellevue?

The cost of mole removal surgery depends on the provider, clinic, and method of removal you undergo. With Dr. Young, the price of your mole removal depends on which type of removal you undergo and the various techniques used during the process. Will The Mole Come Back After Removal?

There’s always a chance that moles will return, but if you undergo the excision method, it’s highly unlikely it will return. However, with the removal of the Co2 laser, there is a higher chance that the mole might return later on.
