Filler injections come with some level of discomfort during the treatment. This is controlled by a combination of topical numbing creams and lidocaine present within the filler itself. Occasionally, prior lidocaine injections may be used. Patients new to filler often ask, “Where does filler hurt most?”
The answer to this question will vary between patients due to natural variances in biology and pain tolerance. In general, there are a few areas that tend to be the most sensitive among most patients.
Lips
Despite being one of the most popular areas to treat with filler, the lips also tends to be more sensitive. There are more nerve endings in the lips than elsewhere on the face. While some veteran lip filler patients will go without any numbing cream, it is recommended that first time patients or those who know they are likely to be more sensitive have numbing cream applied.
Nasolabial Folds
Like the lips, the nasolabial folds have more nerve endings running through the area than other areas. The area also frequently moves, so this can cause more soreness after the injections.
Areas like the under eyes and jaw may seem like they would be more painful, but they are generally not as painful as the two above areas. Though, numbing cream is frequently used in all areas to make patients feel more comfortable during their treatment.
